You know, I don’t know which ones do, but I know which ones Don’t….I am so much more comfortable knowing what is in the bag..And my dogs are thriving!
Canidae, Innova, Wellness, Wysong, Solid Gold, are all made with human grade ingredients…wholesome enough to be people food..so I never wonder what I am feeding my dogs.
I, myself feed Canidae….But all of the above are good foods..

Where in the world did you hear that?

Not sure, sorry. But my daughter went online to research animal testing/cruelty and found out that Iams does do animal testing.
Makes one wonder, because look at Iams ads (so kind and gentle).

MANY pet food companies DO used rendered euthanized cats and dogs. Where do you think they go when the vets dispose of them? This means that foods that contain these animals not only contain the cat or dog but also contain the drug used to euthanize the animal and could be contaminated to due what ever illness/disease the animal was afflicted with.
To tell you need to look for the words “animal” or “meat”. This two terms are used to describe the “generic” renderings that pet food companies get from the rendering plants. they don’t specific cat, dog, chicken, beef, horse, etc because they don’t know. It all just comes as one big contain of “mush”.
You also want to stay away from CORN (dogs can’t digest this and it is a cheap filler companies use), BY-PRODUCTS (this is the feet, feathers, beaks, organs, etc of whatever animal source), BHA/BHT (these are CANCER causing chemical preservatives) and WHEAT, BEET PULP, SALT, FLOUR, etc. These products should all NEVER be in pet foods.
I did a little copy and pasting to show you that Pedigree really is a crap food. There is NO human quality meats, corn is the first ingredient (a huge NO, NO), and they are preserved with BHA/BHT so the company could killing your dog.
Pedigree Chicken w/ Rice Adult
Ground Whole Corn, Meat and Bone Meal, Corn Gluten Meal, Chicken By-product Meal, Animal Fat (preserved with BHA/BHT), Chicken, Rice, Natural Poultry Flavor, Wheat Flour, Dried Whole Peas, Dried Beet Pulp, Wheat Mill run, Salt,
Pedigree Complete Nutrition
GROUND YELLOW CORN, MEAT AND BONE MEAL, CORN GLUTEN MEAL, CHICKEN BY-PRODUCT MEAL, ANIMAL FAT (PRESERVED WITH BHA/BHT), WHEAT MILL RUN, NATURAL POULTRY FLAVOR, RICE, WHEAT FLOUR, SALT,
Pedigree Large Breed
GROUND YELLOW CORN, CHICKEN BY-PRODUCT MEAL, MEAT AND BONE MEAL (NATURAL SOURCE OF CALCIUM), RICE, CORN GLUTEN MEAL, ANIMAL FAT (PRESERVED WITH BHA/BHT), NATURAL POULTRY FLAVOR, DRIED BEET PULP, WHEAT FLOUR, SALT
Pedigree Choice Cuts Canned
SUFFICIENT WATER FOR PROCESSING, POULTRY, MEAT BY- PRODUCTS, WHEAT FLOUR, WHEAT GLUTEN, PEAS, SALT, CARROTS
Now that you can see Pedigree is kind of gross, look at Innova (www.naturapet.com) which is probably the world’s healthiest pet food.
Innova Adult Dog:
Turkey
Chicken
Chicken Meal
Ground Barley
Ground Brown Rice
Potatoes
Natural Flavors
Ground White Rice
Chicken Fat
Herring
Apples
Carrots
Cottage Cheese
Sunflower Oil
Alfalfa Sprouts
Egg
Garlic
Innova uses ONLY human grade whole fresh ingredients in their foods. They are also one of the few companies that have been certified at a high enough standard to produce Organic foods (which means no chemicals, pesticides, etc).
If you truly care about your dog and want them to live longer and healthier, have more enegry, have a shinier coat, and have less trips to the vets, you have got to switch to a better food.
AND THESE HIGH QUALITY FOODS DO NOT COST MORE BECAUSE YOU ACTUALLY FEED LESS!!!
If you can’t find Innova, here are some other great foods: Wellness, Solid Gold, Fromm, Merrick, Eagle Pack Holistic, Canidae, Evolve.
Good luck and I hope you pass this message along to others. It’s about time pet food companies were held responsible.
PS…. Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet, Purina, Royal Canin, Pro Plan, Walthams, etc are all the same as Pedigree…garbage.

I absolutely agree that commercial pet foods are full of diseased products and are the very worst thing (it’s not even food!). Why would we feed our pets garbage we wouldn’t eat?
My 3 year old maltese has been eating Innova since a puppy and is very healthy. I recently put him on an all raw food diet (Prairie Frozen Food Diets), along with frozen raw vegetables (prepared and packaged) and I cannot believe the change in him. You can buy these at natural pet health food stores.
Why don’t you do some research – but, please whatever you do, stop feeding your dog commercial pet food.

All dog food companies test their food on their kennels of dogs – it’s not like laboratories experimenting with toxic cosmetics in an animal’s eyes. Better to test the food there than on YOUR pet, right? They’re testing for taste and palatability and ease of chewing and recommended daily feeding amounts – not to see if it kills the dogs!
I don’t know whether the rumors and websites claiming this about IAMS are true or not. Go to the IAMS website and see if they have any defense against these claims. http://www.iamstruth.com/ Write them an email and explain why you’re not buying their product. If people vote with their $$, companies will quickly change their ways. PETA is notorious for attacking their detractors or people who won’t support their radical agenda. They don’t believe that anyone should own pets at all – even if they’re loved and well-cared for. I have worked for Canine Companions for Independence – a service dog organization. Their directors inspected the IAMS kennels after these rumors came out and said that the dogs were all in fine condition and not abused in any way. I am satisfied with their report, but I don’t by their food anyway for the following reasons:
I don’t use “low residue” foods – they can sometimes cause intestinal problems – it’s natural and healthy for the undigested materials to move out of the dog’s system. I have always thought that IAMS and Eukanuba were overpriced for the quality of the ingredients – they use by-products. Another high-cost “premium brand” Science Diet is mostly corn.
I doubt that any dog food companies in the US are using dead pets as ingredients. But read the labels to be on the safe side – don’t use any food that just lists “meat”. And look for a food that does NOT have “by products” in the ingredients list or you’ll be paying a lot of money for garbage.
Personally, I like Nutro – it has no by products and is reasonably priced and my dogs have done great on it for more than 10 years. They make canned and dry dog foods for puppies and adults, and they have a new holistic line of food. Any changes in diet should be made slowly to avoid diarrhea – gradually mix more new food in with what you’ve been using until he’s switched over. http://www.nutroproducts.com/naturalchoicedog.asp
My friend feeds her labs Canidae (www.canidae.com) and they look great! This is another all-natural, no by-product. a lot of people also highly recommend Innova.

STOP IT!!!
DO *NOT* spread AR/peta-nutz LIES/PROPAGANDA!!!
Shannon 5th April 2010 5:33 pm
It is amazing the kind of lies people spread about pet food.
If you ever want to know FOR SURE what goes into pet food, read the book from teh Association of Animal Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) they are the industry best practice and they decsribe in their book what each ingredient contain.
Some truths:
Corn IS digestible by animals, it is aboput 80% digestible. Diets that say they are “grain free” contain potatoes, which are not any better than grain. Corn is a source of Omega 6, Carbohydrates and soluble fiber
Byproducts are the internal organs (no beaks or feet)
Beet pulp is actually a GREAT source of soluble and insoluble fiber (needed for gut health)
to each their own…but lies about what is in Pet food is not right…why would someone post so many lies and then push Innova? mmhhhhh

this food is one of the worst crap on the market. The worst ingredients are Corn, Meat by-products, Gluten, animal fat, added sugar/salt. Mostly every dog food sold at supermarkets or supercenters are junk for your dog. A dog can’t propertly digest corn. Corn is for cows with 4 stomachs. It has very little nutritional value and its hard to digest. Meat by-products are euthanized dogs/cats, spoiled road kill, 4′D’s Dead, Dying, Diseased, Disabled that should not be used for food by goes in anyway, 15-25% shavings w/rat droppings, feathers, fur, beaks, brains, and other non-nutritional meats good for nothing but fillers. Also, the oils from restaurants are added for flavor so the dog with eat this shit.
Buy only a holistic dog food with real meats and veggies. If you love your dog, you’ll spend a bit more for their health and they will eat less because they are not trying to get nutrition for that junk…
