Last I heard about it it was only for soft can foods only.
They had it in the newspaper yesterday about it.

Menu Foods is the company that was recalled, and the food was recalled from a Kansas Menu Food plant. You can go to menufoods.com for a complete list of the recalled food.
Enrique F 3rd May 2010 10:03 am
I dont think so. They carry by products that are bad for your pet, and can increase the chance for illness such as cancer, and be harmful for the fur. I use nutro or diet science these are found at petsmart or petco.

Don’t know about Kirkland. The recall was for wet canned and pouch foods of a ton of different brands. No dry food. Pedigree was not on the recall list.
Mel 3rd May 2010 11:37 am
I believe they are, Cosco does carry a good food Called Nutra Nuggets, Lamb and rice formula, its nutritionally sound plus contains glucosamine for joint health and omega3 fatty acids. Look for a dark green bag with yellow and gold on it. I found this because one of mine is allergic to corn and Eukanuba, Science Diet etc. all had it. Its only like 17 bucks a bag for the 40lb.size. My dogs are doing great on it all healthy and shiny from the fatty acids.

Here is the page with the list. Sience diet cat was just added>
http://www.dogfoodproject.com/
the foods recalled are all cuts and gravy wet foods.
Kirkland isn’t on the list, and Pedigree doesn’t have any on the list..

I guess that they are supposed to be but I fed my dog pedigree last night and she is sick today. She isn’t hyper like usual and is laying around alot and has vomited. so I am unsure if it should be recalled. Here is the list so far of the dog foods that are recalled.
Variety or Multi-Packs:
If you are in possession of a variety or multi-pack, please be sure to check the individual can or pouch rather than relying solely on the date coding on the side of the carton.

Canned Pedigree was recalled in Asia last week for causing renal failure.
luvs5dogs 3rd May 2010 1:20 pm
I am feeding my dogs Kirkland canned food and haven’t had any problems. I called the phone number on the can and was told that none of Kirklands pet food is involved in the recall. Because the recall has been expanding each day it is wise to check the status of ANYTHING that you feed your pets. I switched my 4 1/2 pound Pomeranian to Gerber baby food ( Turkey ). Pedigree is not listed on the Menu Foods recall page but there have been reported cases of sick pets and Pedigree has recalled some of its food. Walmart just issued this statement http://www.walmartfacts.com/articles/4910.aspx and Menu foods http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=070324234604.hfiw5vng&show_article=1

Pedigree *USA* is –NOT– part of the Menu Foods glutein/ rat poison recall. The list above is fairly accurate. It seems that problems usually arise from the unsanitary conditions in certain southern asian processing plants. Although, most canned food companies have had problems at one time, the consumers best options are to search the FDA’s website. They carry the list of the contaminated brands. If any sickness has occurred to your canine from eating a brand as Pedigree USA, do not scare people into linking your dogs health with recall rumors. Pedigree remains one of the “good” large manufacturers and they usually set good standards for processing. That being said, “I’m sorry your pet got ill”. In a time of national pet crisis, do not make it worse to spread rumors about food not on the list. Its hard enough to guide people to safe choices for their pets.
Again PEDIGREE USA is SAFE from this recall..

This was on there website (for pedigree anyway, its what I use for our dogs):
Dog lovers,
We would like you to know that PEDIGREE® Food For Dogs is not a part of the recent nationwide pet food recall initiated by Menu Foods and other companies. The safety of products not involved in the recall was validated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on March 23, 2007. According to the FDA, pet owners should feel confident feeding unrecalled products to their pets. All of our PEDIGREE® products remain a safe, nutritious and delicious way to feed your best friends.
As dog lovers ourselves, the safety and nutritional quality of our food is our top priority, and you should continue to feel confident feeding our food to your dog.
For details on the recall, contact Menu Foods at 1-866-895-2708, 1-866-463-6738 or visit the company’s web site at: http://www.menufoods.com/recall.

Is pedigree dry dog food safe for my dog. pedigree adult complete
betz 3rd May 2010 2:24 pm
No. I think pedigree has a problem also. My dog used to eat weiners. About a month or two ago I was looking at the pedigree packets. I bought a few to see if my dog would eat it. She did. So I kept buying it. One day I was breaking up the food for her with my fingers. Something sharp hit my fingers and discover it was bone. I called them and they said they do ground up bone and put in the food. I told her then it was in too big of peices. So each time I fed her I would check for bone and remove them. I starting noticing when I would pet her she would flinch. Then a little on she would be lying by the siding doors and would all of a sudden yelp like she had a sharp pain. Well not long after that one day she was moving slowly and her tail was hanging down (which it never did before). Then she did not want to walk. Immediately I took her to the doctor. They ran a blood test on her and they told me she was going into renal failure. She said just take her home. My poor dog was so sick. The doctor did tell me to give her pedilyte so I bought some and all night I would give her the pedilyte to drink. She also said to take her of food for the next 48 to 72 hours. Well, she lasted without food for 48 hours. Then I fixed rice cooked in Chicken stock. She ate that like she was starved. Started off with a small amount of food then increased it. Then I added boiled chicken and some vegies mashed up with the rice. Do you know since I took her off of pedigree dog food she is her old self again. She plays has alot of life and a lot heathier dog. I advise people not to feed their dog any kind of dog food. I told my daughter to take her dog off of pedigree. She said she had just started to give it to her. So she took her food back to the store. She is also doing for her dog what I do for mine. Cook rice in chicken stock and boil chicken and fix vegies like broccoli, carrots, squash celery and anything that I eat. Although I do mash the vegies up for her and cut the chicken in small bites. No skin.

Ive used pedigree dog food for my dogs and I have a great dane who is 10 yrs, a doxie who is 9 yrs, and a basset hound who is 4 yrs. and just recently put down a mix breed who was 15 1/2 yrs old. And they are have done great and there is nothing wrong with them at all. My vet said all my dogs are in great health. I think its a great product. So yes, I would say pedigree is a safe food for dogs.

I don’t know anything about Kirkland but canned Pedigree was not on the list (thank goodness, It is what I feed my dogs and have never had any trouble)

We lost our dog to the recall- we did not know what was wrong with her because the company did not release this important news until a month after we put our Brandy down. She began with soiling and discomfort- and within days she had neurological symptoms and then severe brain damage.
We would give her Beneful dry in the morning, and usually Pedigree pouches for dinner but would sometimes buy Mighty dog pouches (recalled) and on occasion I would buy for flavor variety Companion pouches (recalled).
Had I only stuck with the pedigree which I gave her 90% of the time we would still have Brandy here with us. I know first hand, had I given Brandy only pedigree, she would still be here with us. Don’t even question- Pedigree is safe and I have given it to Brandy for 9 years of her life. I only wish I didn’t worry about the variety of flavor and added in a few mighty dog and companion pouches- I want my dog back.
We have a new puppy now which I give him only Pro Plan dry and let it moisten up in Some Swanson Chicken Broth- I don’t trust moist food right now as you could probably understand.
They are now claiming dry ol Roy and Iams may be contributing to illness as well. So anything on the wet list, apply that to dry as well. Do not buy any wet or dry brands on the wet recall list for now until this is resolved.
Stick with what you know- stick with Pedigree.
Many hugs, and hug your dog, you are lucky to still have him.
I miss Brandy so much. One day I am okay, the next day I am sobbing. Just cannot make sense of this. People just don’t care anymore- if they did, 2 thousand pets would still be alive including our little girl.
Love to you
Karen

I just read where most of the contaminated food by products AND the plastic they are finding traces of in the foods came from China. I was pissed when I read this on AP.
If there was ever a time people need to jump on a bandwagon, it is now. The FDA has consistently ignored pet food controls despite numerous outbreaks over the years. Despite people spending money on vet bills and worse losing their beloved pets…little or no protection is afforded to the people who support this multi-billion dollar business.
Oh yeah…I’m hot about this one. I spent an entire night in an emergency veternary clinic over some contaminated Fancy Feast years ago. My emergency vet bill was $2400 for xrays and surgery. For people who don’t have that kind of extra cash laying around, they end up losing their pet and I can’t tell you how angry that makes me because we don’t have better controls on pet food. AND why the hell are we importing a grain product from China?
I personally think we haven’t seen the last of it either. GRRRR!

This is one thing to consider:
Feed a species appropriate raw diet!
When you feed a raw diet you know exactly what food your dog is getting! Your dog will be much healthier, happier, and you would have piece of mind knowing that you will not have to worry about contaminated kibble!!

In my opinion, no. My pit has been eating Pedigree dry food for the past 2 1/2 yrs. & she is very healthy, smart, active, stout & the best dog that i’ve ever had. I would stick with Pedigree DRY dog food. I dont trust any wet dog or cat food. Sams sells 55lb. bags of it for $16.

DOESN’T IT MAKE YOU WONDER WHY SO MANY PEOPLE ARE ASKING ABOUT PEDIGREE?
Our dog nearly died in May after eating Pedigree canned dog food. She had recurring vomiting and diarrhea. After losing our previous dog to the last recalled dog food (from Costco), we thought we recognized the symptoms and pulled her off the canned Pedigree right away. At that point she had no appetite and could not hold anything down. We gave her one day with no food and then slowly reintroduced homemade chicken soup and yogurt until she was stable.
Since we’d bought the cans at our local Walmart, I posted a query on Craig’s List in our area asking if others were experiencing similar issues with their pets. I received several responses – all the same symptoms, some more extreme than others.
I talked to Pedigree twice and they denied having any complaints about this problem. We thought we must have been wrong…Pedigree had reassured us. Put the dog back on the canned food and the SAME SYMPTOMS were back within hours, this time even more severe.
We resorted to chicken soup and yogurt again and chose an expensive replacement food from our local pet food store. I WOULDN’T TOUCH PEDIGREE WITH A TEN FOOT POLE NOW and if you look closely, many of those postings you see singing the merits of Pedigree look suspiciously planted.
Our dog is healthy and happy again. A nice ending to a scary story.

Why does everyone want to know what the best dog food is,when we all know.Would we eat dog food?Dog food companies don’t give a damn ,they all say theirs is the best. For 12 yrs now I have been feeding my 2 goldens the best food there is.It’s called home made They get real chicken or beef every day, carrots, peas, brocoli, spinach little bit of potatoes and sweet potatoes. Then they will have plain yogurt or cottage cheese. Also barley .The bacon that is sold for dogs, well actually I call it play doh.My vet always tells me if I can afford it I should be doing it.Everyone knows all dog foods are bad,all of them.Fifty years ago our dogs were living longer and healthier because we fed them our food, even if it was scraps we all knew what they were getting,So happy cooking =happy healthy pets.

I have a 14 year old Pit Bull named Ace. Bought him Pedigree Adult Complete Nutrition. He was perfectly fine in the a.m.. Ace was jumping up and down, running around the house with my children and eating and drinking great. Within hours of eating the ‘new’ food he was vomitting and very lathargic. By the folling afternoon, he was unable to walk, shaking uncontrollably, urinating blood, loose stool (blackish color), vomitting, stomach was very bloated, would not eat or drink. The symtoms came on so quickly and very violently. The vet suspected poisoning. We narrowed it down to one possiblity, his food. We investigated all other posiblities. We were advised to put him to sleep. My husband and children refused to give up on him. Thank God, We waited. We treated Ace as if he had been poisoned. We force fed him rice (only a tea spoon at a time) and water by using a Turkey baster. It took a long four days of round the clock care. But he is making improvements. He isn’t out of the woods yet. The vet said the poisoning could have done permenant kidney damage. Ace is still a bit wobbley when he walks. But he has come from unable to stand and urinating on himself, to outside chewing on his bone laying in the shade. The blood work is not back yet. However, we are now certain, it was a poisoning. The dog food is the ONLY reasonable explanation. We contacted Pedigree and they are going to take samples and check it out. After I search Pedigree on the internet, there were over 20 post, (that I read, there are many more, just google Pedigree complaints) with the exact same scenarios. Unfortunately, most of the ones I read, the dogs were put down.
All have taken place within the past couple of months (05/2010 to 08/2010). Pedigree Adult Complete Nutrition Small bites and also large bites. Use with caution. I am so certain this is the culprit, that I am paying to have my own testing done to send to the FDA and consumer protection agencies. I know Pedigree did not intend for this to happen and it could have possibly happened to the food while out of their hands. My intent is not to bash Pedigree. I’ve used their food for years and years. They are a great, caring company. However, I would never want to remain quiet and let this happpen to another dog. If this saves one dog from going through what Ace has gone through, I am gratefull. Take Care and Best Wishes.

My Black Mouth Cur a wonderful, loving protective big ol’ hound dog died, alone and in sickness while I and my Wife had to be at work. I buried him on our land so that he’ll always be with us especially in our hearts. Mars Corporation is directly responsible!
Their love of MONEY is causing my family many hours of heart ache. Our home is so empty without our Rocky.
They’ve obviously have “bought off” the FDA, the FDA says they don’t have any “supporting evidence” that Pedigree dog and cat food[s] cause illness and death to animals we here on this website KNOW BETTER!
Rocky suffered from terrible muscle spasms we not knowing better [thinking it was his maybe eating lizards or frogs in our back yard when he went potty] kept feeding our poor boy this chemical laden food[s] to where when he finally got so sick we took him to the vet [expensive proposition for us] we were told that he was dieing from heart, lung and nerve damage probably caused by ingestion of chemicals over a long period of time, we fed him and our other dogs Pedigree almost exclusively. Rocky had a bad hip so I bought the “Joint and Hip” Pedigree and that’s when Rocky REALLY showed sickness.
The ONLY chemicals our poor boy ate were from the damnable PEDIGREE food[s]. No other “chemicals” are available in our home, he lived inside the house all the time only went out to go potty or with me when working in the back yard.
Rocky suffered terribly in his last week if I could put my hands on the persons that KNOWINGLY allow their animal foods to contain KILLER chemicals, well lets just say they would wish thye had never met me!!!!!
My Vet refused to state outright that Pedigree by MARS [yeap candy bar makers too, wonder what they’re feeding us?] because he pointedly said he would not be involved in a legal case. Can’t say I blame him if MARS can buy off the FDA certainly they can bury us in legal fees and destroy his practice!
We as an entire family and friends and anyone willing to listen and do; are boycotting ANYTHING made by MARS Corp.
We tell everyone willing to listen what Pedigree has done to our beloved Rocky and the misery it has caused.
If you are reading this then you really need to be concerned as to what you are giving your pet[s] cat food included and that means their canned and treat foods as well.
You are poisoning your beloved Pets without knowing it STOP using Pedigree or any of their other “pet” foods now or you’ll live through what we as a family have. It is terrible and the hear ache never goes away!!!!!!!

I have four dogs and feed them all pedigree for several years now. Recently I have had to take my dog to the vet because we noticed she kept frequently vomiting white to sometimes yellowish mucus like subtance. The vets found nothing and recommended we change her food. Afterwhile we noticed the other three dogs had the same reaction to the food as well. There has to have been an obvious change in the manufacturing of the food. They all immediately stopped throwing up after we changed their food gradually. I’m truly upset that these dogs entrusted us and we were not informed enough to know how this could have even been allowed on the shelves at Costco.

I don’t know if pedigree is safe or not. I know one of my Dog is dead. And one isn’t. the one that isn’t, would hardly ever eat his pedigree. I think all of this takes time to build put in there systems. I also think its the dog treats. Before my other dogs were 18 when they died. I made there dog food. She was 6. SInce this happened I have been looking all this up and I am shocked at how stupid I have been. I don’t like them eating just anything. I thought I was being good to them. Now I find out I was really stupid!!
