High Pedigree Dog Food?
- admin in category: dog natural food
I am getting a dog, and it’s current owner says…
“you would have to buy him only a high pedigree dog food not cheap dog food as it does nothing healthy for this dog it just fills the empty spot”
Can anyone give me specific brands/names of food to look for?

He is right, look for;
Hills
Royal Canine
Dont go for;
Bakers
Pedigree
Iams
Look at the back of the lables or pack and I would stear clear of tinned meat. All the goodness is cooked out and replaced with preservatives.

pedigree is cheap dog food. I go to a organic pet store that is in town, i wont buy any of those commercialized foods..read online some about the breed and then read the cons of store foods, hopefully that helps you make the right choice for you and your new dog!
Opps read it wrong, anyway don’t buy pedigree lol!!
good luck

Brands aren’t a big issue. Ingredients are. The first ingredient should be meat. There shouldn’t be corn in the ingredients at all if there is it should be very low on the ingredients list. Animal bi-products and anything that say “meal” are no good as well. Meal is just over cooked meat that looses most of it’s nutritional value and bi-products are miscellaneous crappy bits of meat that your dog is way better off without. Organic food in my opinion has been the best, however it can be pricey. The main goal is to make sure the ingredients are good. You can get good food for about 9 bucks and depending on where you get it and how big your dog is you will be fine financially. There are a lot of fillers in most pedigree dog foods. (You can spend a ton on iams and they have a bunch of crap in their products) You could also look up feeding your dog the “raw” diet. Good luck!
(no matter what the brand the main thing is to check ingredients)

We have an excellent “Dog Health Food ” store in my town believe it or not–sounds crazy,I know…but after talking to the people that work there —they really know what they are talking about!! Their opinion is that most brands including Iams, Eukanuba, Pedigree, science diet etc..are actually not good for your dog. They claim they are filled with a lot of additives and meat “fillers” ie:animal by products. They recommend several other brands that they claim have real de-boned meat and mostly organic and all natural ingredients. Some even come with probiotic nutrients. They also tell dog owners to stay away from certain ingredients that can cause a lot of allergies.( I think they said corn meal and wheat give pets allergies and most other brands have those ingredients in their food) I don’t know much more, but I seriously trust their opinion and I feed my dogs the brands that they carry, and they are not much more expensive. I feed my dog “wolf cub” by solid gold. Here are a few more:
* Wellness
* Nature’s Variety:
o Prairie
o Instinct
o Raw bones and complete raw diet
* Solid Gold
* Canidae
* Natura:
o Innova
o California Natural
o EVO
* The Honest Kitchen

Oh and NONE of these Brands were ever recalled when all that pet food was contaminated last year and got recalled. Makes youuwonder…..hope that helps!!

Here is a website that has dog food brands graded based on their ingredients http://forum.kijiji.ca/ptopic6749920.htm… This should help you find a high quality food that fits your budget.
Don’t use any of the foods that you can find in a grocery store (Iams, Purina, Pedigree, Ol’ Roy, etc. even Science Diet and Eukanuba are not good foods). These foods are full of fillers like corn and wheat, sugars, artificial flavors/colors/preservatives, and meat and chicken by-products. Your dog cannot digest any of these fully, so he may not be getting the nutrition that he needs to thrive. These brands are simply junk food for dogs and can actually shorten their lives. It has also been proven that these foods contain chemicals used to euthanize animals.
When switching your dog’s food, mix the new food in with the old one for a week so they have time to adjust.
Buying a high quality food may cost more initially but is actually the same price if not cheaper because you will feed your dog LESS (since high quality foods don’t have the fillers). I feed my dogs Wellness. It has no fillers, artificial flavors/colors/preservatives, no by-products, and no soy products. He is healthy as can be and has a beautiful coat. He goes crazy and starts dancing when I put it in his dish!

I’ll start by letting you know about the dog food that feed stores selling all of them (by all of them, I mean all the best dog foods) refer to as the best:
Orijen; Your dog even if finicky like mine will eat it up like its raw meat.
Evo Innova is also a very fine quality dog food.
Canidae is cheaper and good, but not the best; it does have some grains which aren’t in a natural dog’s diet.
Here is a review and ratings site so you can judge and look them up individually on the net so you can find a retailer because most are not at any regular grocery store: The first has ratings & ingredients…You really want to stay away from fillers and grains. Dogs have more problem with their digesting the grains even though it may not sound like a bad ingredient (Just not in a dog’s diet)

***Vets will try to tell you to feed Purina, Iams, and Science Diet. But don’t feed them, they aren’t good for your dog. Vets tell you those lies because they are PAID to do so!!!! It’s sad, isn’t it?***

Here is a website that rates dog food. Go to it and enter the food of your choice. You will want a 4, 5, or 6 star rating. If the food of your choice has a 1, 2, or 3 rating that means it is crappy food. The higher rating the better, the lower rating the worse.

Also, another great thing to feed is the raw diet. Raw is completely safe and healthy. It’s what I feed to my dog. Here are two great links about raw feeding, the healthiest thing for your dog.

Well, good luck with your dog. I hope you find a healthy food that works good for him. Good luck!!!

Other than going off and listing TONS of options (which there are), go to my site below that is solely for pet foods…and look at the ingredients and the ratings I have given them.
If you want the short list of good foods…Orijen, Solid Gold, Wellness, Merrick, Canidae, etc.
But…just see the site!
