Pet owners, at one time or another would witness the dog throwing up. A dog owner hearing the gagging sound made by the pet would instantly leap not to help the dog but to save the carpet from the mess. As if one heap of vomitus is not enough for the master to clean, the dog would transfer to another corner to make another mound. In times like this wouldnt you want to vanish the dog to Neverland?
Considering the dietary indiscretion of our four legged friends, it would not be surprising to see them throwing up. Dogs have huge appetites not only for edible but also for non-edible objects. Naturally, the dogs system will expulse objects that are not supposed to be in the dogs stomach. Dogs only have to vomit to remove the foreign objects from the stomach. We know that dogs have such huge appetites. Fill the doggie bowl and the food will be gone in an instant. The dogs habit of gulping down food will result to vomiting if the dry food that fills the stomach absorbs moisture and expands. The dogs vomiting can be acute or chronic. A dog may have sudden vomiting bouts but this condition is pretty ordinary in dogs and dog owners need not be concerned especially if the dog is its usual energetic self. Generally, acute vomiting is not life threatening. Often times throwing up is a onetime occurrence and after the offending contents of the stomach are expulsed, the pet would be back in its normal voracious-eating self. However, there are instances when acute vomiting would need immediate medical attention. Dogs have a curious personality. This curiosity may led to poisoning or a blockage in the intestinal tract. Throwing up caused by poisoning or blockage of the intestinal tract would need immediate medical attention.
A dog that appears to be healthy would throw up every now and then because of an undiagnosed medical condition. Dogs with chronic bouts of vomiting can have intestinal parasite infestation, parvovirus or distemper. Allergies, pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease are other causes of chronic vomiting. Medical attention is mandatory for dogs with chronic vomiting as poor digestion can hamper the absorption of nutrients resulting not only to low energy level but also to poor physical appearance. Vomiting is common in dogs thus dog owners are usually not concerned with the condition of the pet however because chronic vomiting can have serious effects on the health of the pet it is imperative that medical attention be given.
