I feed Solid Gold and my Border Collie has done fabulous on it. I have also heard very good things about Wellness, Go!, and Merrick.
I am sure I missing some, but those are the types I would recommend highly.

Some great dog food brands include Innova, Wellness, California Naturals, Blue Buffalo, Merrick, and Canadie. They do not contain the nasties that you mentioned.

There is not one best food it depends on what works best for your dog and what you personally believe. One brand of food does not work for every dog. The very basic you need to look for a food that is corn, wheat, soy, and by-product free. Also try to find out where the company sources their ingredients and who manufacturers the food.
